Worth knowing

Things to think about first.

Height and planning

In England, a new wall next to a road used by vehicles, or a footpath beside one, normally needs planning permission if it is over 1 m high. Elsewhere the limit is usually 2 m. Rules differ for listed buildings and conservation areas, so check the Planning Portal or your council.

Footings first

A freestanding wall needs a concrete footing sized for its height and the ground it sits on. That work is out of sight, but it's what keeps the wall straight.

Walls on a boundary

If the wall will sit on the line between you and a neighbour, the Party Wall Act may apply, so it's worth talking to them early.

Brick walls: common questions.

Anything else? Call 07309 765719. Enquiries are welcome seven days a week.

Do I need planning permission for a front garden wall?

In England, a wall next to a road or a footpath beside it normally needs planning permission if it's over 1 m high. Elsewhere, up to 2 m is usually allowed without permission. Listed buildings and conservation areas have different rules.

Can you match the bricks to my house?

Brick colour and texture are discussed before work starts, with the aim of suiting the house and street.

Do you build brick pillars?

Yes. Brick pillars with stone pier caps are part of the service, as in the photos on this page.
